The Scottish Government is to award a �10m prize for advances in renewable energy, the First Minister has announced.
The Scottish Government is to award a �10m prize for advances in renewable energy, the First Minister has announced.The sum will be the world's biggest award for developments in renewables like wave or tidal power.Alex Salmond said it will be for renewable developments that are demonstrated in Scotland."Scotland will be seen as the place to be for people who are developing marine renewables," the First Minister said."We wanted to make something that would have the biggest impact - and this is going to have huge impact."This will be the world's biggest prize in marine renewables."Mr Salmond is meeting the National Geographic Society in Washington as part of his Scotland Week visit to the US.He said the prize would be awarded in association with National Geographic."This history of such innovation pages shows they repay their investment many, many times over," he added.Copyright � The Press Association 2008
